Listen, I know.  I’ll be back.  I even have a great camera now (best Cashmas present ever that was immediately put to use!).  Woohoo!  But yes, Happy New Year.

Oh and this outfit?  Dress, $50.  Shoes, $55.  Bra, $8.  Stockings, $4.  Hat, Free.  Smile and one of the best New Year’s Eves Ever?  PRICELESS!

It seems like just yesterday I was buying my baby sister her first makeup book, The Color Of Beauty by fly lady Iman. Now I could really use lil sis’ help in getting my smokey eye together. Isn’t she so purty? And check out her makeup skills.

Now that Iman book is a classic but you may want to consider gifting someone this new Sam Fine instructional dvd too. And if you wanna seem extra nice, you’ll add this $10 makeup kit from Lord And Taylor that could be used for practicing. Ladies young and old would appreciate a gift like this.

And maybe one day you’ll be so lucky that years and years later that they’ll thank you for it randomly while makeup shopping together. You’re welcome, Lil Sissy and you are beautiful most importantly inside, but also outside with or without makeup. Kisses! I’m still gonna steal your eyelashes…sleep light!

bedroom bed

I would definitely like to go back to bed right now. Most likely I’d just plop down and not even move all of these pillows. Wait, I’d need to move these pillows so I can burrow up underneath my covers, pull them to my chin, and sink deep down and drift off into some soft, billowy dreams. Soon. Anyway, yes…this is my bed. And yes, I need all of those pillows. Heehee.

my two styles

This picture of Tracee Ellis Ross and Fatima Robinson (OMG thanks hyp) is old but I feel it illustrates the two sides of my fashion personality.  Years ago a lovely chica defined my style as Urban Audrey (as in Hepburn) and I think she pretty much got it right.  While I love frills and dresses and pearls, I am also very much into structure and edge and a bit of hip kitsch.  So somewhere in between the fancy girl and the fly girl is where I hope I’ll always lie, definitively Urban Audrey- straddling the line between girly and gritty.

As you see, I couldn’t wait to wear these boots.  I’ve been living in them practically.

wayw out

This is starting to get really funny. I don’t even know when or where I got these boots but unpacking all these stored boxes is great. I was really dying for some new winter boots and even wrote a list that included flat brown boots on it and lookie loo, I find out that I already bought myself some three or more years ago…LOL!

Let’s rejoice and not think about how sad it is that I have so much stuff that I don’t even remember the origin of some items. Let’s also rejoice for all the great stuff that Goodwill, Salvation Army, and friends and family (and friends of friends and family) have been coming up on! Also, here’s the outfit I rocked the very next day after finding these treasures! And yes, I need a new camera…I know!

box LR

So, this summer I gathered up most of the errant boxes and items that I have stored in garages across the north east (lol) and brought them into my humble abode and I must say that I have *ALOT* of stuff. Too much in fact. I mean why in the world do I still need the jeans that I wore in middle school?

Above is a picture of a small corner of my apartment and please believe that the rest of it was FILLED TO THE BRIM with boxes and crates in a similar fashion. I’ve been digging myself out since the summer and giving items away to people and to Goodwill and to the Salvation Army and the trash bin and have made a bit of headway but I have so much further to go!

One of the biggest treats though when pouring through these boxes is finding some goodies that I totally forgot that I even owned. Like these fabulous boots that either my mom gave me or that I thrifted somewhere. I can’t even remember but they are awesome! Discovering little gifts like that makes the minimizing my stuff that much sweeter and pouring through 10,000 black dresses all the more bearable. Soon, I plan to catalog some things to give away to you so stay tuned.

halloween boo

Well, I don’t have any full body pictures but as you guys suggested, I picked outfit #2. I had a hell of a time finding something to stick in my hair and ended up Macguyvering some wooden cuticle push sticks into something decent enough.

Also, I am eye-makeup challenged and it took me a good amount of time trying to line my eyes. I think I did okay. Not that you can really see it in this picture…lol. This is the best that I could do with my camera phone. This is me and Felix Hendrix aka Jimi’s little brother. We had an absolute blast!

The creativity was amazing and people really got into the holiday. I saw some pretty amazing costumes- like a handmade Donald Duck, a convincing Slick Rick, and a hilarious spot-on of King Joffe Jofer (James Earl Jones in “Coming To America”) complete with rose petal throwers. I obviously need my own digital camera.

So Ann Taylor Loft is offering 40% off of all sale items. Yitidee! The two above sale items reminded me of items that I already have in my closet and love to death (especially this cardigan). Some people don’t like the store or may think they’re too young for it but I get alot of well-made basics here that last and last. Here are a few other items that’d be a great addition to any closet. Enjoy the sale page!

HALLOWEEZY

Help me pick my costume! I’m leaning towards the 70s Hippie Chick. I just need an afro and some bangles and some big earrings. I already have a cool 70s leather coat that my granny gifted me with several yrs ago. I would be apart of a matching duo costume and get to do the bump with my date all night long. Woohoo! If this doesn’t work though it’s not hard to put my hair in a bun with some chopsticks and use the Geisha Girl #2 costume because let me be honest, I’m not wearing #1 at all. Not doing it. What do you think though? Y’all have come through before…so let’s get it!

I used to be a very avid thrifter long ago and sometimes I’ll pass a spot and my heart beats a little faster at the anticipation of The Great Bargain awaiting me hidden beneath piles and racks of crap. But uhm, I’m really kind of lazy and so uninterested in spending hours unearthing treasures at this point in my life. I do still appreciate a great bargain though and many of my closet staples happen to be happily thrifted. One day I’ll get back to it I hope because it is pretty fun to find that gem or spit-shine a cast-off into something captivating.

All this to say that one of my favorite stores is where a lovely young lady does the hard work for me and brings all the greatest thrifted goodies into her shop for all to peruse. Today my key pieces came from her shop. Take a gander. I’d share the name but I have to get permission from the fly mamacita who put me on first.

nifty thrifty

I’m so in love with this belt. It’s adjustable and the two silver pieces clamp in the front. And this coat? It fits like a glove and I just had to have it. And I’ve gotten a jillion compliments on it. I love the military feel and the hunter green color makes it all the more interesting to me. Are you Post-Thrift or are you still out there finding that gleaming needle in the hay stack yourself? If you haven’t done it before, there’s nothing like it!
